Kickstarter’s determined to change the way that creative ideas are funded, and we’re looking for others like us. Nearly a year old and growing fast, we’ve been featured in Wired, the New York Times’ Year in Ideas, and listed at #1 on Silicon Alley Insider’s Hot NYC Startups to Watch.

We’re looking for a Rails developer with a history of tackling interesting problems and building fun things; someone who seeks elegant solutions to difficult problems, while still pragmatic enough to get things done. GILT GROUPE IS HIRING!!!

Senior Software Engineer

Company Background:

Gilt Groupe provides access, by invitation only, to Men’s, Women’s, Children’s, Beauty, and Home coveted fashion and luxury brands at prices up to 70% off retail. Each sale lasts 36 hours and features hand selected styles from a single designer. The business model, based on urgency and scarcity, offers extraordinary goods at incredible prices, but only for a limited time. All of these sales occur daily at noon, driven by daily email reminders and alerts to a private membership. Most of the hot items are sold within the first 10 minutes, with the bulk of sales occurring within the first 90 minutes.
Job Description:

We are looking for the few individuals that have the knowledge, passion, and drive to change the way we shop for luxury items online. We are deploying the latest technology to support the higest quality user experience while gathering the data we need to support a data-driven decision making process.

As more of us elect to buy online, hard core developers know that data-driven online retail eCommerce is where they’ll find the most interesting work today, and position themselves for solid career advancement down the line. As a Senior Software Engineer for Gilt Groupe, the luxury fashion online retailer in New York City, you’ll join an elite development team and take digital merchandising to the next level. Your work here involves not just our website, but all the key back-end business functions that run our business, including purchasing, receiving, inventory management, shipping and customer intelligence. In our rapid software development lifecycle environment, you’ll see the meaningful results of your work quickly, sometimes within weeks. And we offer an honest and open environment, highly receptive to your ideas, highlighted by weekly tech team offsite hackfests. Our company is growing rapidly and we’re looking for a few very talented, highly qualified developers to help us stay ahead of the growth. Take step one on your new career by applying today. Relocation assistance and H1b visa transfers are available for qualified candidates.

As a Senior Software Engineer in New York’s Chelsea district, one of your first missions will be learning Ruby to supplement your solid background in object-oriented development. You’re likely to thrive in this role with 5 years C/C++ coding in environments where the performance implications of applications you designed, architected and built were paramount. Ideally, you then took those skills into website development, learned J2EE, Python or PHP, and perhaps Rails, and worked on high performance, highly scalable websites.
Here are a few of the meaningful projects currently on our docket:

  • Redesigning the back-end UI for a better user experience. Keep in mind that the public Gilt Groupe website is only a small portion of the overall technology used in our business. You’ll also get a chance to design a new admin website, and create a portal into our business processes, work that will involve a bit of architecture as well as the UI. You’ll be automating business processes across the enterprise, from purchasing to receiving to inventory control and shipping. We’ll look to your insights in how we can automate complex business processes, and how we can better organize data. Your ability to understand and design key workflows so you can contribute to the overall network architecture and database design, will be key.
  • Designing, architecting and building our reporting infrastructure. You’ll approach this design heavy function almost as a data warehouse project. You’ll help our organization ID those members of Gilt who are our most valuable, to forecast future customer behavior and help us to better estimate what types of merchandise, and how much of it, to purchase.

What makes working here enviable is that we foster a learning and educational environment. We use new ideas and incorporate the latest technologies to address the very issues that prove vexing when you buy online!

If interested, please send your resume to careers@gilt.com

Funded Startup Looking for Lead Rails Developer

We are looking for a smart, team-oriented programmer with a “Getting Things Done” attitude to help us develop our technology and launch our business. We’re looking for someone who enjoys challenges and wants to be part of something big. Skills required: Rails 2.2+, MySQL wizardry, mod_rails, understands hosting/scaling production rails sites, HTML/CSS, JS (jquery), with knowledge of ecommerce/payment gateway integration a plus. Compensation will be in the form of a competitive cash and equity package.

Where others have tried and failed, two frustrated New York City renters think they’ve solved the rental equation – no more Craigslist fake listings, no more high commissions, no more unreliable brokers, just a quality apartment search experience – and we’re looking for a smart and motivated web developer to contribute to the idea and vision, and be the lead on development. The Naked Apartments business model is both blatantly obvious and never been done before.

Business startup is funded and about to hit the ground running. Well-connected, ambitious – the good kind – founders have internet and financial backgrounds. Please contact Shankar Desai at sdesai@post.harvard.edu for more information.

Are you a senior developer with Ruby on Rails experience looking for an opportunity to redefine enterprise web applications? Have you ever used an intranet, extranet, or a wiki, and absolutely knew that you could build something better if you had the chance? Or, are you currently a Java or .Net guru doing Rails projects on the side, and looking for an opportunity to switch?

iCrossing, a global digital marketing company, is looking for an experienced senior developer with solid Rails experience to help our VP of Tech disrupt the current crop of corporate web-based applications. You’ll be developing simple, elegant, and innovative solutions for us using your favorite framework: Rails. We’ll be honest, on occasion, you’ll have to edit some legacy PHP code, handle some system maintenance, and participate in exciting daily SCRUM meetings, but it’s all part of being a senior developer.

If you’re the right person, you have a deep interest in the web, development, and enjoy working in a user-focused, team-based environment. Passion is an absolute must; if you’re looking for a standard corporate IT gig, this is not the job for you. You have at least 5 years with web development, with a minimum of one year developing with Ruby and Rails. As a senior developer, you must know how to develop web applications from the ground up – from database schema design to application architecture to css/javascript/xhtml – and have experience managing other developers. Ideally, you also have some experience with agile development, tdd, version control (GIT/SVN), and unix systems. Our team works on Mac, and we hope that you do too.

If you’re looking for a place to call “work” where you can be passionate, challenged, and engaged, you should check us out. The Job application is here: http://bit.ly/3Veuir

You know how to use Subversion/Git and can handle Agile methodologies. Your knowledge of XHTML, CSS and Javascript can’t be matched. Your amazing communication skills mean you’re equally comfortable addressing geeks and laymen.

It would be great if you also had experience with RESTful Web Services, AJAX and JSON. Knowledge of SQL configuration and programming (functions, triggers, stored procedures, etc) is a definite plus. Our new US office is in New York, but we gladly support ecommuters and will consider applications from talented people anywhere.
